Babcock completes its largest maintenance package ever with the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Babcock has announced that it has successfully completed its largest maintenance package to date on the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) HMNZS Te Mana.
For nearly two years, Babcock has been working with a myriad of small and medium enterprises across New Zealand to complete critical upgrades on the frigate.
Over 300,000 hours were spent on the refurbishment of HMNZS Te Mana, including a renewed propulsion system, advanced work on the hull, and overall assurance of future mission readiness.
“Babcock’s work on HMNZS Te Mana is our largest maintenance package to date, strengthening our longstanding partnership with the New Zealand Defence Force and showcasing the capability we’ve built in the country with support from the Navy and our vital supply-chain partners,” said Simon Spratt, Babcock Australasia managing director.
“Babcock is supported by 600 local New Zealand suppliers, each one critical to supporting the services we provide the Royal New Zealand Navy, and they are integral in supporting the country’s future Defence agenda.”
Last year, Babcock completed similar large-scale maintenance work with the RNZN on HMNZS Aotearoa. The company also worked on the reactivation of HMNZS Otago to return the frigate to operation.
As a strategic maritime partner to the New Zealand Defence Force, Babcock has continued to operate and invest in marine maintenance support across the country in support of maintenance, repair, overhaul and engineering work with RNZN ships.
“More than 91 per cent of Babcock New Zealand’s current expenditure is reinvested back into the New Zealand economy through the provision of services from local businesses,” Spratt added.
“In the last two years alone, over $220 million of activity has been directed into the local small and medium enterprise network, showcasing Babcock is serious when it comes to supporting uplift sovereign capability.”
