Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) Cape Hawke has been delivered to Defence in a ceremony at Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia.
This delivery is significant, as it is the 10th and final Evolved Cape Class patrol boat to be delivered to the Royal Australian Navy.
“The delivery of these Evolved Cape Class patrol boats are an excellent example of our partnership with defence industry in action,” said David Hanley, Deputy Secretary for Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment.
“It also supports the government’s Future Made in Australia agenda and our commitment to growth within the defence industry, through the delivery of Defence shipbuilding projects onshore and boosting our sovereign supply chain.”
This achievement represents the commitment that Defence and the wider industry can work together to get projects done on time and on budget, with the steady progress of this program representing successful collaboration.
Approximately one boat has been delivered every six months.
Built by Austal Ships under Project SEA 1445 Phase 1, the boats are designed to help protect Australia’s borders and offshore interests. They will play a key role in day-to-day maritime security operations, patrols and surveillance.
ADV Cape Hawke will join nine others that are already in service with the Royal Australian Navy.
Together with the upcoming Arafura Class offshore patrol vessels, the fleet will strengthen Australia’s civil maritime security capability.
