International and Royal Australian Navy warships have gathered at HMAS Creswell, south of Sydney in preparation to attend the upcoming Kakadu Fleet Review in Sydney Harbour this week.

Represented countries include India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam alongside Australian and Pacific partner nations.

The Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review will see the largest gathering of international warships on Sydney Harbour for more than a decade with up to 30 ships from 19 countries assembling in a display of international sea power.

Exercise Kakadu is usually conducted biennially to strengthen maritime security cooperation with partner nations and build partnerships across the Indo-Pacific, this year coinciding with the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy.

This year marks the 17th iteration of the multinational maritime engagement exercise, in which Australia and 18 partner nations will have more than 6000 members participating.

More to follow.
