QinetiQ has recently provided support for the Royal Navy’s submarine maintenance work in Perth for HMS Anson.

Defence and security company QinetiQ has provided the UK’s HMS Anson with support services and maintenance efforts as the nuclear-powered submarine made a stop in Australia.

A multitude of South Australian-based small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as eastern states and cities, contributed to manufacturing and delivering a range of additional parts needed for effective servicing.

QinetiQ reverse engineered parts and data in its UK headquarters, which were then provided to its Australian offices which engaged with domestic suppliers for manufacturing efforts.

“QinetiQ’s global reach and established local engineering capability enabled us to move quickly to support HMS Anson in Australia,” said Corry Neale, chief executive of QinetiQ Australia.

These parts were added to Astute Class submarines in a mere four weeks, demonstrating the Australian defence industry workforce’s responsiveness to the intricate necessities of the specific maintenance needed for nuclear submarines.

As Australia ramps up readiness for the delivery of Virginia Class submarines, efforts like these represent how the defence industry is preparing for domestic maintenance of Royal Australian Navy nuclear-powered submarines.

“We will continue to support AUKUS Pillar 1 activities and provide opportunities to Australian companies to be part of this internationally significant, complex supply chain.”
