Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has confirmed but refused to comment on military court proceedings allegedly being taken against a former senior naval officer.
Media reports, citing anonymous sources, have alleged that a former senior naval officer is facing a court martial connected to military contracts awarded in Western Australia in 2022.
It’s alleged that the former officer will face charges in a military trial during September this year.
“This is now in a legal process, there’s not much I can really add to this in a public way. We now let those processes play out,” Minister for Defence Richard Marles said, speaking to a press conference in Adelaide on 24 July.
“I think we need to let those processes play out. The court martial is a legal process, and so it’s important that play out. I think that should play out without commentary.”
