Two French vessels are being hosted by the Royal Australian Navy at Fleet Base West for a maintenance and logistics visit.

Two French vessels are being hosted by the Royal Australian Navy at Fleet Base West for a maintenance and logistics visit.

Marine Nationale units FNS Emeraude and FNS Seine have arrived at Fleet Base West for maintenance and logistics support.

Royal Australian Navy ships HMAS Anzac and HMAS Sheean, along with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) P-8A Poseidon aircraft, exercised with the French units off the coast of Fremantle.

The visit has been co-ordinated with the support of the West Australian government and has been managed in accordance with state and federal COVID-19 regulations.

“Australia and France have a longstanding and co-operative defence relationship, based on shared values and a commitment to promote a prosperous, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region,” Defence noted in a statement.

“The two navies work closely together in support of maritime security.”
