Elbit announced the roll out of direct infrared countermeasures on NATO aircraft.
Elbit Systems confirmed that it will be integrating the company’s J-MUSIC DIRCM (direct infrared countermeasures) defence warning system into the Airbus A330, as part of the system roll out onto the NATO Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF).
The J-MUSIC DIRCM brings together laser technology with high frame thermal cameras and a high-speed sealed mirror turret to provide protection from infra-red missiles. The systems are currently being produced for the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
The MMF is a multinational collaboration to share air resources, with nine aircraft in use for air-to-air refueling, transport and medical evacuations. There are six participating countries, including Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway.
The nine aircraft in the MMF are owned and managed by NATO and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), respectively, with additional support from the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR).
Elbit Systems notes that the J-MUSIC DIRCM has clocked some 30,000 flight hours on board 25 aircraft variants.
