Collins Aerospace has been engaged to produce NP2000 propeller systems for C-130 turboprop transport aircraft in a new US$135 million contract.

The US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center selected Collins, and parent company Raytheon Technologies, to manufacture and maintain the eight composite bladed propellers, electronic control system, and spares.

NP2000 composite blades can be removed individually, reducing maintenance time, and extending the life cycle of equipped aircraft.

Collins Aerospace senior director for propeller systems, Quinlan Lyte, said the indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract would modernise the C-130 Hercules and E-2 Hawkeye.

“Reliability and maintainability are important to our customers,” he said.

“We are retrofitting the Air Force’s fleet to improve performance, increase flight safety, and lower operating cost.”

Collins will perform the work in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
