Supported by the Next Generation Technologies Fund (NGTF), the government will invest $6 million for industry, academia and government research agencies to contribute to the development of the quantum technologies.
DST Group says quantum technologies could bring game changing advantages for Defence in areas of time sensing, navigation capabilities, communications and quantum computing.
The research conducted under the $6 million investment will aim to accelerate the exploitation of quantum technologies in a range of applications like highly accurate time-keeping and advanced global positioning system (GPS)-independent navigation.
DST Group is aiming to inform Defence of the potential benefits and practical limitations of quantum technologies through studies and demonstrator systems within three years.
Proposals are being sought in two categories:
- Smaller proposals that deliver studies to inform Defence on the applications, feasibility and practical limitations of quantum technologies; and
- Larger proposals that address the development of concepts, algorithms and/or technology demonstrators that contribute to the development of Defence relevant capabilities.
Applications close on Tuesday, 13 February. To submit applications or find more information, visit the Defence Innovation Portal website.
