The award recognises NEC Australia as a “Reservist-friendly” organisation due to its provision of continued and significant support to Reservist employees.

NEC Australia employee Lance Corporal Dan Lydford nominated NEC for its unwavering support, commitment and accommodation of his training and operational requirements. The company was also credited for supporting LCPL Lydford’s duties at short notice.

"NEC Australia is extremely proud of our employees who dedicate time and energy to such a vital activity as protecting Australia’s defence and security interests. We consider it an honour to support our Reservists when they’re called upon to serve the nation and, equally importantly, to assist them as they return to work," said Mike Barber, chief operating officer NEC Australia.

"We understand that Reservists face the extra pressure of balancing service with the usual life and work commitments and humbly accept this award for the support we provide Mr Lydford and other employees with dual responsibilities."

The DRSC works to ensure a flexible and supportive partnership between the community, employers, Reservists, the ADF and all levels of government. 
 
Colin Radford, DRSC Victoria state chair, said, "Employers such as NEC understand that you don’t have to wear a uniform to serve your country. By supporting their Reservists to serve and return to their civilian employment, they are making a huge contribution and getting a skilled, accomplished leader in the bargain."

The DRSC acknowledged NEC Australia’s work in helping facilitate an opportunity for LCPL Lydford to undertake a period of continuous full-time service in the Army. LCPL Lydford was subsequently deployed in support of ADF operations from February to August 2016. Upon LCPL Lydford’s return, NEC enabled a mutually manageable return to work program.
