Defence Connect has offered unparalleled coverage of defence industry this year. As we reflect back on 2017, we take a look at which capability priorities from the 2016 Defence White Paper mattered most to you.

Coming in at number one, unsurprisingly, is Maritime and Undersea Warfare, which was a staggering 42 per cent more popular than the next capability priority; Key Enablers.

2017 saw intense coverage of the SEA 1180 Offshore Patrol Vessels project, which is set to kick off in the new year, with Lürssen and Austal still undergoing contract negotiations.

The SEA 5000 Future Frigates project has also been under the microscope, particularly the tender process, which has faced intense scrutiny by senators Nick Xenophon, Rex Patrick and Kim Carr.

The Future Submarine project did not escape 2017 unscathed, with Naval Group's Jean-Michel Billig raising the possibility the highly touted propulsion system may be in doubt, despite repeated denials from Defence.

Here are the top five most popular sections of 2017:

1. Maritime and Undersea Warfare

2. Key Enablers

3. Strike and Air Combat

4. Land and Amphibious

5. Intel and Cyber
