Defence and security company Saab will demonstrate sophisticated mixed reality applications, including battlespace visualisation, using interactive holograms at the 2016 Australasian Simulation Congress.
“Mixed reality is the perfect medium for learning, collaborating or visualising complex information,” said Inger Lawes, Saab Australia’s Mixed Reality Applications Program Head.
“In the training environment, it allows both trainers and trainees to share a visually rich interactive experience where the real world can be overlaid with digital imagery and information in the form of holograms.”
The Microsoft HoloLens platform is a lightweight wearable computer that allows wearers to experience and interact with light-dense holograms. Saab Australia expects that the technology will be adopted much more widely than just the defence and security sector.
“This technology is transformational and we have had significant interest from a diverse range of industries keen to understand how mixed reality can add value to their businesses,” said Lawes.
Saab are encouraging visitors at the congress to come and try the technology first hand.
The Australasian Simulation Congress is Asia-Pacific’s premier simulation conference for industry, government and academia and will be held from 26th to 29th September in Melbourne.
