Babcock lands counter-CBRNE contract

Babcock Australasia has announced it has been awarded the counter – chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (C-CBRNE) capability tender by the Department of Defence.

Babcock Australasia has announced it has been awarded the counter – chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (C-CBRNE) capability tender by the Department of Defence.

The agreement will see Babcock work with Defence to "streamline sustainment and acquisition processes for C-CBRNE using Babcock’s industry-leading asset management systems", and is worth about $26.65 million for the initial five-year contract, with a maximum period of 15 years depending on performance.

Graeme Nayler, managing director of land for Babcock Australasia, said he "believes this contract reflects a trust earned through Babcock’s proven Defence track record".

“We certainly don’t take these opportunities for granted and we appreciate the trust that the Commonwealth government places in Babcock to deliver on these critical contracts," Nayler said.

"This win positions Babcock well for future Defence and emergency services contracts and we look forward to continuing to partner with Defence in future programs, such as the replacement engineering fleet, lethality program, integrated land target systems and deployable infrastructure,"

Babcock was selected for the contract "based on their ability to provide expertise and industry best practice to deliver the solution to Defence requirements", according to Defence's media release on the tender.

Defence said the "establishment of Babcock as prime vendor is a key reform initiative to realise savings and efficiencies in the management of the existing commercially available C-CBRNE capability, and in the acquisition of new C-CBRNE capabilities, including for Project LAND 3025 Phase 2 Deployable Special Operations Engineer capability".

Babcock confirmed that because of the contract win, there will be 11 new jobs created to help undertake the program.

The company has had a recent run of wins with Defence, notably the support and sustainment program for two Landing Helicopter Docks at the Garden Island Defence Precinct with joint venture Naval Ship Management, and the ADF Ground Support Equipment asset management contract.
