South Korea taps Elbit Systems for airborne munitions deal

The Israel-based defence contractor has secured a number of contracts to deliver precision munitions to South Korea.

The Israel-based defence contractor has secured a number of contracts to deliver precision munitions to South Korea.

The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of South Korea has awarded contracts worth a combined $74 million (AUD$101.4 million) to Elbit Systems for the supply of airborne munitions.

The deals, awarded via the country’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration, form part of the Precision Fires Program of the Republic of Korea Air Force.

The munitions will be supplied over a five-year period.

“We see an increase in the demand for our diverse portfolio of munitions as air forces seek fires capabilities of greater sophistication and impact,” Yehuda (Udi) Vered, general manager of Elbit Systems Land, said.

This is the latest of a number of multinational arms contracts awarded to the company this month.

Earlier this week, Babcock International Group awarded a £73 million (AUD$134 million) contract to Elbit Systems UK for the delivery of new electronic warfare capabilities to the Royal Navy under Increment 1 of the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability program.

This came just days after the company was selected to deliver the Interim Combined Arms Virtual Simulation (Deployable) ICAVS(D) solution to the British Army – a pathfinder project under the Collective Training Transformation Programme.

Affinity, a joint venture between Elbit and KBR, was also recently tapped to operate additional training aircraft for the RAF.

The contract between Affinity and the UK’s Ministry of Defence, valued at an estimated £65 million (AUD$119 million), will oversee the operation of four additional Texan T-6C aircraft under the UK Military Flying Training System program, with the contract expected to last for 12 years.
