The ASX-listed company has updated its counter-UAS technology amid a rise in drone activity.

DroneShield has announced the launch of a new AI engine, updating its RF Detection devices across its RfPatrol, RfOne and DroneSentry-X platforms.

The firmware upgrades, include:

  • the introduction of cursor-on-target message output, allowing sensors to integrate into the major platforms such as ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit);
  • a 30 per cent detection speed improvement, reducing the time between initial detection scan and alerting;
  • training the AI model for weaker or obstructed signals, expected to increase the detection range performance of all devices; and
  • introducing an additional frequency band, supporting a number of key protocol detectors specific to this band.

“As we’ve seen in recent events, the use of drones and UAS escalates and increases destruction in situations of high tension- with no barrier of distance,” Oleg Vornik, DroneShield CEO said.

 
 

“Detection is even more vital than before.”

The updates are set to be rolled out across DroneShield devices globally over the next week, amid a reported spike in drone activity in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

The technology upgrades have been tested during deployments with the US Air Force and Australian Army.

The announcement comes just over a month after the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) authorised the advanced testing of DroneShield’s electronic warfare and counter-UAS offerings within Australia.

The exemption, granted under the Radiocommunications (Exemption) Determination Act 2021, includes safeguards designed to enable the ASX-listed company to test its products while maintaining restrictions around impact on the broader community.

Such permissions aim to foster local development of advanced electronic warfare technologies for use by authorised government agencies in Australia and for approved exports.
