The Bundeswehr has contracted the company to provide pre-flight inspections and partial work phases to the German Air Force’s CH-53G transport helicopter at two additional military bases.

The Bundeswehr has contracted the company to provide pre-flight inspections and partial work phases to the German Air Force’s CH-53G transport helicopter at two additional military bases.

Scheduled to begin in March 2022, Rheinmetall has been contracted to provide additional pre-flight inspection services and partial work phases for the 64th Helicopter Squadron at Laupheim in Baden-Wurttemberg as well as Holzdorf-Schönewalde.

“Overcoming rival bids in a request for tenders, the Düsseldorf-based integrated technology group’s subsidiary Rheinmetall Aviation Services GmbH (RAS) will now be carrying out maintenance operations at Laupheim and Holzdorf-Schönewalde,” a release from the company read.

It has been reported that the contract between the Bundeswehr and RAS is valued in “the lower two-digit million-euro range”, and scheduled to run “for three years in two lots”.

Already, Rheinmetall has been maintaining the transport helicopter for the German Air Force since 2020.

Currently, the 64th Helicopter Squadron has 66 units of the CH-53G helicopter, with Rheinmetall employees embedded within the Squadron to undertake the required works.
