Milspec presented to both Rheinmetall and BAE Systems Australia during the LAND400 Phase 2 national roadshows put on by the Commonwealth.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia and New Zealand managing director Andrew Fletcher said the company was delighted to work with Milspec to increase the capability of the BOXER CRV.

“Milspec is a leading Australian producer of defence products that employs highly-skilled engineers and exports its products globally,” Fletcher said.

“Milspec’s collaboration with Rheinmetall will enhance the battle proven BOXER CRV and allow it to operate more effectively across the full spectrum of combat operations.”

Rheinmetall Defence Australia recently joined the Commonwealth of Australia’s Global Supply Chain program. Fletcher said this meant Milspec’s alternator would be among products and services contemplated for export to Rheinmetall operations globally.

Milspec Manufacturing general manager Neil Morrison said the company was pleased to have the opportunity to provide Rheinmetall with a vital part of the BOXER CRV and enable Rheinmetall to release space and weight from the vehicle.

“The alternator we have designed for the BOXER CRV provides a solution for modern military vehicles that rely on alternators to generate increasing volumes of power to meet the needs of modern C4I and other electrical systems,” Morrison said.

“The Milspec 450 water-cooled permanent magnet alternator achieves this increased demand for power by providing up to 90 per cent of its designed power output capability at vehicle idle speed.

“A secondary benefit of the Milspec 450 water-cooled unit is it is lighter and smaller than existing units on the market.”

The product development relationship between Rheinmetall and Milspec builds on previous collaboration between the companies under the LAND121 Phase 3B program.

Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia is delivering more than 2,500 high performance logistics trucks to the Commonwealth under the program and Milspec is among key suppliers.
