Elbit bolsters Seagull USV platform

The firm has integrated new safety technologies onboard its Seagull unmanned surface vessel.

The firm has integrated new safety technologies onboard its Seagull unmanned surface vessel.

Elbit Systems has fitted a 360-degree panoramic video system with an automatic target recognition capability and a patented automatic navigation system to its Seagull unmanned surface vessel (USV).

The new technologies are designed to enhance the platform’s autonomous capability, supporting navigation in busy maritime environments.

According to Elbit, the new technologies complement the USV’s Sense and Avoid capability, enabling the vessel to operate in compliance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972.

“This enables the Seagull USV to operate safely in dense harbours, at sea with heavy traffic and autonomously complete missions even without communications with the control station,” Elbit stated.

The Seagull USV is a multi-mission platform that features a modular mission payload suite supporting a number of operations, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), mine countermeasure, electronic warfare, maritime security, and underwater survey missions.

The platform has been in service with the Israeli Navy since 2017 and is currently in the production and deployment phase internationally.
