BMT Design and Technology is officially changing its name to BMT Defence and Security, trading simply as BMT.

"We want to be the silent achiever, we are the guys who make things happen. The culture is different in an employee owned company, we want to ensure that if people are going to spend half their life with us, that they're doing their very best life's work," BMT managing director Peter Behrendt said, explaining the purpose of the name change.

The change has been made to better align the name with the company’s capability in Australia.

"For our customers and staff, BMT means complex science, technology and engineering in defence. The word BMT stands alone to represent all of these things," Behrendt said.

BMT has invested for the future in Australia. In 2018, BMT opened an office in Adelaide and now employs over 50 employees.

"This is only the beginning and our name change, though small, signals our intent to be in Australia for the long term," Mr Behrendt said.

As one of Australia's largest and most experienced consultancies, BMT's expertise in environmental work is unequalled. For port and coastal marine developments, BMT provides full project management from conception to completion. In defence, BMT provides in-service support and design of landing craft. Its expertise has been applied to the Royal Australian Navy's Balikpapan Class of LCH vessels through engineering assessments and detailed design tasks.
