Aussie defence SME appoints new defence offsets investment adviser

Melbourne-based Amaero International, a specialist in metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) for the defence, aerospace and tooling sectors, has appointed David Wolf as its global defence offsets and counter trade investment adviser.

Melbourne-based Amaero International, a specialist in metal additive manufacturing (3D printing) for the defence, aerospace and tooling sectors, has appointed David Wolf as its global defence offsets and counter trade investment adviser.

Wolf is recognised globally for his expertise within defence offsets, counter trade and private equity. Over the past 40 years, he has negotiated successful outcomes for more than $15 billion worth of defence offsets and investment.

As a member of the board of the Global Offset and Countertrade Association (GOCA), Wolf joins 14 other global leaders of the world’s largest defence companies, including the global heads of offsets from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Safran, Bell, Leonardo and Saab AB.

Wolf welcomed the opportunity, saying, "Globally, there is significant interest in the industrial technology associated with 3D printing. 3D printing can provide countries with new sovereign capabilities to manufacture their own critical components.

"I am currently involved in several offsets and counter trade opportunities that are actively pursuing advanced 3D metal printing technologies, and Amaero is extremely well positioned to not only supply the relevant equipment, but to also assist my clients with the required R&D, commissioning and training of staff."

Wolf will be actively promoting Amaero as a technology and equipment solution provider and will assist these countries to establish a metal additive manufacturing footprint utilising Amaero equipment and intellectual property (IP), via partnering with defence primes to provide the required investment funding through their offset obligations.

Amaero chairman David Hanna said, "As a member of the most influential board in defence offsets and commerce counter trade, Wolf is one of the most well connected and experienced persons in this specialised area globally.

"We have already learnt so much from David and we very much look forward to working with him and his global clients, as we continue building our influence with the world’s leading defence primes."

Offsets and counter trades are arrangements common in the global defence industry, where countries require defence primes and other suppliers to make agreed purchases or investments into the host country.

Amaero International is an Australia-based company that manufactures large format complex components in metal with laser-based additive manufacturing processes, commonly known as 3D printing.

Amaero has worked with many of the world’s leading manufacturers of aerospace and defence products in both an R&D and manufacturing capability and has a demonstrated ability to deliver aviation and military specification 3D printed alloy critical operation components.

The company was established with the support of Monash University in 2013 to take advantage of commercial opportunities identified by the Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing (MCAM). Amaero is co-located with MCAM in Melbourne. It operates two additional facilities, in Adelaide, South Australia, and El Segundo, California.
