VRA welcomes government’s sovereign missile announcement

Varley Rafael Australia welcomed the guided munitions announcement, and is in the process of finding additional Australia-based defence partners.

Varley Rafael Australia welcomed the guided munitions announcement, and is in the process of finding additional Australia-based defence partners.

Varley Rafael Australia, a joint venture between the 135-year-old Australia-based Varley Group and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, welcomed the federal government’s sovereign guided weapons program announced last week.

VRA has committed to produce the SPIKE guided weapon system to the Australian Army for its Long Range Direct Fire Support Weapon and for Phase 2 and 3 of the LAND 400 program.

VRA noted that its SPIKE system is already in use by six countries, with an extensive Transfer of Technology (ToT) program enabling Australian industry to move into domestic guided missile production and comprehensive in service support.

The company also hopes to use its ToT program to support the sovereign production of guided munitions, and has begun the process of consultation with other Australia-based defence manufacturers.
