Elbit Systems has secured a £11.5 million ($21 million) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to supply the Armed Forces with helmet-mounted micro binocular XACT nv33 night vision goggles (NVGs).

The initial 18-month contract contains an option for additional follow-on orders over a period of five years.

The Elbit-built NVGs are designed to improve mission efficiency under dark conditions by enabling safe, off-road vehicle driving without headlights.

Variants of the XACT product are currently in service with a number of NATO countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, and are also in use by the Israel Defense Forces.

“The XACT nv33 NVG systems have already been proven to enhance the operational effectiveness of several militaries around the world and we are pleased with the opportunity to provide this capability to the UK,” Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK, said.

“The manufacturing and delivery of the XACT nv33 NVGs will create more skilled jobs in the UK and demonstrate freedom of action and value for money to the UK customer.”

Over the past 18 months, Elbit Systems has secured US$95 million ($122.7 million) in orders for NVGs for the US Army’s Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) systems, the US Marine Corps’ Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG) systems, the German Federal Police’s special forces and special operation units and the Armed Forces of the Netherlands.

This latest contract from the UK Ministry of Defence is the third award for Elbit Systems UK in 2021, following on from a US$166 million ($214 million) contract for maritime training technologies and a US$137 million ($176 million) contract for the future target acquisition solution (D-JFI).
